I finished my latest book The Mirrored Heavens last night, it was given to me for Christmas by Arlene & Harry (Tim’s Mom and Dad) and I’m not sure where they got it from as I don’t think it was on my wish list.

However I really enjoyed the book, it’s a sci-fi novel set in the not too distant future where there’s now only two superpowers: The US and the Eurasian Coalition. They’ve engaged in a second cold war and are very close to all out war so when the Space Elevator they’ve jointly built is blown up by terrorists, it doesn’t exactly relive the tension.

The story is seen from three different perspectives and that was one of the negatives of the book for me as I often got confused who the current segment was about, especially when it’s just from character to character within lines of each other rather than pages.

That being said it was a good book and it’s a bit too close to how our own future might turn out. It’s the author’s first novel and when I Amazon searched him I discovered that he’s since released another book which is part two to this book in what’s going to be a trilogy. So I’ll pick that up at some point in the future.

For now I’m reading Peter & Max: A Fables Novel which is another Christmas present, this time from my Grandparents. It’s set within the Fables universe which is a series of comics I read and love. The book itself is beautiful with the page edges not lining up properly to give the book an antique feel. The paper is also thicker than regular paper and there’s illustrations on most of the pages. All in all it’s a gorgeous book that I can’t wait to read.

My Iron Mac sticker finally arrived today, I’m pretty chuffed with it! My only annoyance is a couple airbubbles I couldn’t get out. I hate airbubbles.

Im on the bus into town just now to have a couple drinks for Sarahs birthday. We’re hitting up Speak Easy before heading onto Polo, should be fun.

That is if I ever make it there, which is in doubt considering how this bus driver is driving…

Wow I didn’t see this coming, Windows actually creating a mobile phone that looks nice? Shocking.

It’ll be interesting to see how this fares against the iPhone, especially since there’s no backwards compatibility with older versions of Windows Mobile. It’s not releasing till the Holidays so there’s some time for Apple to announce something new and spunky with the iPhone.

I’ve had a good day today, I met Mandy, Emma, Oliver, Billy and Gerry for coffee in Costa in the new part IOC St Enochs shopping mall. Henk came along after to give Emma her business cards which look really good, she’s almost set to launch her recruitment company which I think is really cool. I think she’ll do well cos she’s such a people person and somehow manages to find something to talk to anyone about. I envy that :)

After I said bye to them I went to Hamleys cos Mandy said she saw my Halo Wars tank so I wanted to see what other ones they had. They only one (which I of course bought) which is the Hawk plane. Will construct that tomorrow.

Next I took a trip to Frasers to get a vallance for my bed since the one on my bed just now is Ross and Gills and I’m just waiting for them to demand it back. However the only one they had was £24 so I didn’t buy it. On the way out I had a look at the alarm clocks to see if they had any that were iPhone compatible, they did! I got a wicked cool Sony one that has a huge screen. It was a bit pricey though at £75 and that was at half off! I need a bedside light up clock anyway so I got it :) kinda hilarious that I can buy an alarm clock at £75 but £24 is too much for a sheet :P

After that I went to USC to see what shoes they had and had the most embarassing moment ever. I’ve got a bit of a sore throat just now so I bought some Lemsip all in one capsules to get rid of it before it becomes a cold. I went into my bag to get one out and when I pushed it to pop it out the bag the capsule burst! Since I was doing it in my bag nobody knew what I was doing and when I pulled my hand out my bag it had some white powder on it, so of course my nose would get itchy then. Without thinking I rubbed my hand across it, noticing a staff member was staring at me. She quickly looked away but kept giving me furtive glances, typically my nose got even itchier but I didn’t dare rub it until I was out the store. Mortified I headed to get the train home.

Tonight Paula and Kirstin are coming round for pizza, movies and chat. Should be fun! I think we’re gonna watch Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs which looks kinda funny.

The first Bioshock was an epic game, the twist in the story was just mindblowing and the combat was well balanced and overall it was just an awesome game.

When you came to the end you got two endings, depending on whether you harvested the Little Sisters or not. If you did then the world was ending. If you didn’t then the world was all super and happiness.

Now along comes Bioshock 2 and while it looks like it’s gonna be a really good game, I’m worried about how they’re gonna tie the stories in to each other.

I don’t think the story is written by the same people either so they can’t continue their vision, perhaps they never actually wanted a sequel?

Who knows, all I know is that after watching the launch trailer (embedded below) I can’t wait to play it and find out for myself.

So Apple finally announced their tablet and a lot of people seem underwhelmed. It’s basically just a huge iPod Touch that still doesn’t do multitasking or Flash and doesn’t have a camera. However none of that will stop me from buying one. Call me an Apple fanboy but I’m really excited for this product. I’ve been pondering getting an e-reader and over Christmas I nearly bought one, boy am I glad I didn’t!

While it probably isn’t as good for reading as e-ink based readers, the iPad does a lot more for the money you put down. I think it’ll be a great laptop replacement for holidays but also just a general ‘carry everywhere’ device. I’m also glad it runs iPhone apps and I’m looking forward to it getting some of it’s own dedicated apps to take advantage of the new OS elements, screen space and processor speed.

Now if they’d just announced the shipping date and UK prices, note to Apple: you can’t state that something is available at an “unbelievable price” and then not state the price.

I got Mass Effect 2 this morning and so far it’s as good a I’d hoped. I’m pissed I’m working such long shifts tomorrow and Sunday and really looking forward to sitting down to play it properly on Tuesday.
