I just phoned up to get my Barclaycard card activated cos I got a new one (why do you have to do that now?) and of course they went on to try and sell me something. This time it was protection against identity fraud, apparently it’s increased 40% in the last year. They also can apparently get your name from the electoral roll? So if they can do that, and don’t even need my credit card details, what exactly can Barclaycard do to stop them? I didn’t find out cos I was phoning from my iPhone so the freephone call wasn’t free so I told her no and she activated my card for me. She didn’t sound amused that I cut her off, oopsie.

I’ve had a good day today, I met Mandy, Emma, Oliver, Billy and Gerry for coffee in Costa in the new part IOC St Enochs shopping mall. Henk came along after to give Emma her business cards which look really good, she’s almost set to launch her recruitment company which I think is really cool. I think she’ll do well cos she’s such a people person and somehow manages to find something to talk to anyone about. I envy that :)

After I said bye to them I went to Hamleys cos Mandy said she saw my Halo Wars tank so I wanted to see what other ones they had. They only one (which I of course bought) which is the Hawk plane. Will construct that tomorrow.

Next I took a trip to Frasers to get a vallance for my bed since the one on my bed just now is Ross and Gills and I’m just waiting for them to demand it back. However the only one they had was £24 so I didn’t buy it. On the way out I had a look at the alarm clocks to see if they had any that were iPhone compatible, they did! I got a wicked cool Sony one that has a huge screen. It was a bit pricey though at £75 and that was at half off! I need a bedside light up clock anyway so I got it :) kinda hilarious that I can buy an alarm clock at £75 but £24 is too much for a sheet :P

After that I went to USC to see what shoes they had and had the most embarassing moment ever. I’ve got a bit of a sore throat just now so I bought some Lemsip all in one capsules to get rid of it before it becomes a cold. I went into my bag to get one out and when I pushed it to pop it out the bag the capsule burst! Since I was doing it in my bag nobody knew what I was doing and when I pulled my hand out my bag it had some white powder on it, so of course my nose would get itchy then. Without thinking I rubbed my hand across it, noticing a staff member was staring at me. She quickly looked away but kept giving me furtive glances, typically my nose got even itchier but I didn’t dare rub it until I was out the store. Mortified I headed to get the train home.

Tonight Paula and Kirstin are coming round for pizza, movies and chat. Should be fun! I think we’re gonna watch Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs which looks kinda funny.

So Apple finally announced their tablet and a lot of people seem underwhelmed. It’s basically just a huge iPod Touch that still doesn’t do multitasking or Flash and doesn’t have a camera. However none of that will stop me from buying one. Call me an Apple fanboy but I’m really excited for this product. I’ve been pondering getting an e-reader and over Christmas I nearly bought one, boy am I glad I didn’t!

While it probably isn’t as good for reading as e-ink based readers, the iPad does a lot more for the money you put down. I think it’ll be a great laptop replacement for holidays but also just a general ‘carry everywhere’ device. I’m also glad it runs iPhone apps and I’m looking forward to it getting some of it’s own dedicated apps to take advantage of the new OS elements, screen space and processor speed.

Now if they’d just announced the shipping date and UK prices, note to Apple: you can’t state that something is available at an “unbelievable price” and then not state the price.

Mobile Photo 8 Jan 2010 01 10 06.jpgTim bought the Jamie Oliver iPhone app last week so I downloaded it and decided to give it a try on Sunday. I browsed through the recipes and decided to make meatball and courgette carbonara. It turned out really good! I had the leftovers for lunch at work on Monday. I’m making another dish on Saturday: grilled lemon and herb chicken with mash, sounds good eh?

Oh crappity crap! Being the helpful soul I am, I thought I’d charge Tim’s iPhone for him while he sleeps but since I don’t have a wall charger I plugged it into my MacBook Pro. I knew it’d start syncing but I thought it’d recognize it was a different computer and ask if I wanted to continue. IT DID NOT! Once I realized this I yanked out the cable to cancel the sync, then checked to see if anything had been deleted. All his photos seem to be gone and ones he’s taken with the iPhone some of them are just all black now. I really hope he has a recent backup :/

Since theres no official Wordpress app for Android, most of the apps for posting to it are a bit naff. Or rather, they were!

I just found a 5 star rated app called wp2go and it’s pretty solid so far. It seems to do everything the iPhone and web post does so I’m chuffed.

Team 17 has released Worms for the iPhone! I’m excited for it but a couple reviews on the App Store say it doesn’t run so well on the 3G, but runs fine on the 3GS. Since I have an out of date, super uncool 3G I’m not sure how it’ll run. So to that end I’ll be waiting a couple days before I purchase it to see how other 3G users get on.

I don’t really care that I can’t control the movement, there isn’t enough controls on the iPhone to allow for that I say. Plus this game looks amazing anyway!

Doom: Resurrection is perhaps the best-looking 3D game on the iPhone, and is a big step up from id’s last effort, a port of Wolfenstein. But those good looks come at a price.

Much like Dead Space on the Wii, the unexpected graphical fidelity comes at the expense of movement, with Doom: Resurrection to be an on-rails shooter rather than a true 3D title.

Apple just finished up their keynote for WWDC and everything was pretty much as expected. Snow Leopard was shown on, iPhone OS 3.0 was shown off and a new iPhone was revealed.

Picture 2.jpgFirst up, Snow Leopard. I can’t WAIT for thism and thankfully I don’t have to wait much longer. Apple announced Snow Leopard is coming in September for $29(!) for Leopard users. $29! I thought it was gonna be much more than that so that was a nice surprise. What I’ve seen of SL has me really excited. A new Finder, everything is faster, more efficient, new Quicktime. I can’t wait to get my mitts on it.

While I think iPhone OS 3.0 is good, I don’t think Apple needed to show us the same stuff twice for us to get it. We saw pretty much everything they showed off back in March so this whole section of the keynote was incredibly dull. One cool thing: a car sharing/rental app that finds the cars for you and then allows you to unlock it using the iPhone. That was pretty cool.

New iPhone, exciting yes? No. It looks identical to the current model on the outside, but has some nice features inside. Video recording and editing, upgraded camera with autofocus, voice control. All lovely features yes? So why am I disappointed? Apparently it’s come out that AT&T wanna charge “mid-contract” people $499 for the new iPhone. Frankly that’s ridiculous, but I don’t know who to be more annoyed at, Apple or AT&T. Apple have released the update which doesn’t really improve on the 3G in a massive way and expect people who went out and bought the 3G to pay $500 for a small upgrade? Uncool. Or AT&T who have probably made their subsidized money back from the first year of the contract but won’t let people upgrade for the ‘new’ price.

Either way it’s prolly good for me since I’m moving to Canada in 2010 and don’t wanna be stuck paying a UK phone bill for a phone I’m not using!

Tomorrow marks the beginning of WWDC, the developers conference held in SF for Apple lovers the world over.

On Monday Apple themselves kick off the shenanigans with a keynote that is traditionally used to show off new tech; specifically this year it will be iPhone OS 3.0 and Snow Leopard. There’s also the usual rumors about a new iPhone and while there’s always a slim chance they won’t, I see Apple unveiling the new version tomorrow.

Whether it’ll be anything more than a storage bump (32GB models are all but confirmed) remains to be seen tho. There’s talk of video chat via a front side camera, different models like the iPod/iPod Nano.

I don’t think we’ll know for sure until after the Apple Keynote and I for one can’t wait to see what they have in store.
