My Iron Mac sticker finally arrived today, I’m pretty chuffed with it! My only annoyance is a couple airbubbles I couldn’t get out. I hate airbubbles.

Apple just finished up their keynote for WWDC and everything was pretty much as expected. Snow Leopard was shown on, iPhone OS 3.0 was shown off and a new iPhone was revealed.

Picture 2.jpgFirst up, Snow Leopard. I can’t WAIT for thism and thankfully I don’t have to wait much longer. Apple announced Snow Leopard is coming in September for $29(!) for Leopard users. $29! I thought it was gonna be much more than that so that was a nice surprise. What I’ve seen of SL has me really excited. A new Finder, everything is faster, more efficient, new Quicktime. I can’t wait to get my mitts on it.

While I think iPhone OS 3.0 is good, I don’t think Apple needed to show us the same stuff twice for us to get it. We saw pretty much everything they showed off back in March so this whole section of the keynote was incredibly dull. One cool thing: a car sharing/rental app that finds the cars for you and then allows you to unlock it using the iPhone. That was pretty cool.

New iPhone, exciting yes? No. It looks identical to the current model on the outside, but has some nice features inside. Video recording and editing, upgraded camera with autofocus, voice control. All lovely features yes? So why am I disappointed? Apparently it’s come out that AT&T wanna charge “mid-contract” people $499 for the new iPhone. Frankly that’s ridiculous, but I don’t know who to be more annoyed at, Apple or AT&T. Apple have released the update which doesn’t really improve on the 3G in a massive way and expect people who went out and bought the 3G to pay $500 for a small upgrade? Uncool. Or AT&T who have probably made their subsidized money back from the first year of the contract but won’t let people upgrade for the ‘new’ price.

Either way it’s prolly good for me since I’m moving to Canada in 2010 and don’t wanna be stuck paying a UK phone bill for a phone I’m not using!

tweetie.pngI’ve been using Tweetie as my Twitter client on the iPhone for a good month now and I love it to bits. Today the developer released Tweetie for Mac and as I’m smitten with the iPhone version I of course had to check out the desktop version.

And I wasn’t disappointed. It’s a great little app with a sexy UI and the ease of use you come to expect from Mac applications. One of the best features is that you can call up a post window that’s seperate from the main window. It doesn’t sound like much but it’s super handy for posting quick snippets before you forgot them or some such. Not that I ever do such a thing but you know, some people do.

But one thing might be a dealbreaker for me: it doesn’t make any sound when you receive new messages, nor can you use growl. The only indication is that the icon in the menu bar lights up, which is nice but easy to miss.

Since the ad-supported version is free I’m gonna stick with it for now as I do really like it and hopefully the developer will release an update with sound and/or growl additions in the near future.

If not I can always fall back on Bluebird which I’ve been really enjoying prior to Tweetie.

This latest ad campaign by Microsoft really irks me. Mainly because everything in them is untrue.

Ok yes Macs are more expensive than PC’s. The cheapest Mac is £500 I think but you get a lot of bang for you buck for that. It’ll also outlast any PC you buy and I guarantee you’d have less problems with it than a comparable PC.

I bought my first Mac, my first gen Macbook <3, in July 2006. It’s still running fine to this day and outpaces my brother and sister’s newer PC’s. I only ever had to take it to the Apple store once and that was because the battery developed a weird fault but Apple gave me a brand new battery and sent me on my way, FREE OF CHARGE. Would you even know where to go to get your PC fixed?

And “all aesthetics and no computing power”? Do Microsoft know what most of the film and design industry runs? Cos I’ll give you a clue, it don’t come out of Redmond.
